VW will open a production facility in the Kenyan city of Thika towards the end of the year. Last month, VW Managing Director,Thomas Schäfer, signed an agreement to this effect with the Kenyan government in the prescence of H.E.President Uhuru Kenyatta. This will be VWs third facility on the continent.
VW aims to build 5000 cars a year at the new plant by the start of 2017. The plant will primarily focus on manufacturing the VW Polo Vivo which is their most successful model in southern Africa. VW will also start a training centre to equip and qualify production workers.
