When BMW first launched the X1 it was at a time when entry level premium SUVs were still new to the market. Fast forward to today and the market place is almost over saturated with all sorts of niche cars and in segments a lot of us never knew existed. Unsolicited for or not the […]
The formula for Porsche’s GTS models has always been a simple one: Extra equipment levels offered as standard, blacked out front and rear head lamps and sumptuous interior trim levels and of course a small power bump. For slightly more than the S models in their respective ranges the GTSes seem to offer value propositions for savvy buyers.
The new 718 Cayman and Boxster are the latest to receive the GTS treatment. The 2.5 flat four cylinder engine has received a new air intake and a revised turbo charger compared to the S 718 giving it an output of 269 kw. 11 kw more than the respective S variants and 25 kw more than the last generation GTS cars. Torque is at 430 Nm between 1,900-5000 rpm. The engine is mated to a six speed manual transmission as standard. However, as an optional extra the PDK gearbox is also available. This endows the GTS with a top speed of 290 kph and a sprint time of 4.1 seconds. This numbers make for an interesting comparison with the recently launched 911 Carrera T.
Other standard features include the Sports Chrono Package which adds a stopwatch to the dashboard and PASM(Porsche Active Suspension Management). The latter lowers the ride height by 10 mm. A mechanical rear differential lock is also standard as is Porsche’s torque vectoring system. Porsche’s Sport Exhaust has also been included as standard.

The interior has been furnished with sports seats for both the driver and co-driver with the familiar GTS logos featuring on the head rests. The steering wheel is covered in alcantara as are the arm rests and center console.

I’ve previously been critical of VW’s upward move towards the premium segment of the automotive market. I have regarded it as an abandonment of its perceived quality status and a forceful march into a segment I feel it was never meant to have any real estate in. However, having sampled some of its latter products […]
If you have been following this website for a little while you’ll know that we are not only car enthusiasts but we are also big fans of film. I feel so strongly about it that my long term goal is to be able to produce really high quality automotive content not just in print but […]
If there is something that Porsche has is its affinity for variants. They have become so successful in differentiating the 911 bloodline that in essence each variant is a different car. I’m not sure I could say the same about lotus’ recent attempt with their Exige line up. Enter the 911 Speedster. The last speedster […]
VW’s performance stable is at its strongest at the moment. The MK 7.5 Golf GTI and Golf R haven’t just won hearts and minds the new golf R has been trading blows with cars way above its pay grade with some journalists even going as far as calling it the best car ever made. The […]

Months before we are able to lay our hands on actual examples of BMW’s car of the moment it has premiered in the popular mobile game CSR Racing 2. BMW’s dedication to its fan base is to be emulated by other manufacturers if not imitated. Hours after the M2’s unveiling at Auto China in Beijing […]
With Jaguar leading an all out assault on the electric car establishment that is Tesla with their i-Pace it was only a matter of time before another premium manufacturer gave chase. While BMW is no stranger to hybrid technology as featured in the i8 super car they have yet to produce a car that runs […]
I’ll be the first to admit that we had a lot of fun making this video. At the same time the VW Citi golf proved to be such a worthwhile little city car. The manual gearbox and the unassisted steering wheel have had me musing over the benefits of having a car that is engaging […]
