MINI has today officially revealed their all new Countryman and for the first time in MINI’s 57 year history there is a plug in hybrid in the range. With the new Countryman emphasis has been placed on practicality. The wheel base has been stretched by 75 mm and the car is 200 mm longer compared to its predecessor. There is 450 litres of storage space which can be expanded to 1309 litres with the rear seats folded .
The Countryman also features updated looks which include changes to the front and rear of the car.
There will be three engines on offer when the Countryman goes on sale next year. Two petrol engines will be available for the standard Cooper and Cooper S variants as well as two 2.0 litre four cylinder diesel engines. The diesel engines come in two different guises, the base format in the Cooper D Countryman which generates 110kw of power and 330 nm of torque with the SD model generating 140kw of power with 400 nm of torque. Then entry level 1.5 litre 3 cylinder petrol engine generates 100kw of power and 220 nm of torque with the more powerful 2.0 litre 4 cylinder producing 141 kw of power with 280 nm of torque.
The hybrid S E model features the 1.5 litre 3 cylinder petrol engine coupled to a synchronous electric motor which generates a further 65 kw of power and an additional 165 nm of torque.
Their is a six speed manual gear box available as standard but as an option there is a six speed steptronic gearbox. An 8 speed steptronic gear box is also available for the Cooper S and Cooper D Countryman. It is standard however on the Cooper SD Countryman.
The all new Countryman will be on sale from February next year.
