Lexus is set to premiere its Kinect Seat concept at the Paris Motor Show this year. The seating area is made from synthetic spider silk. The silk is mainly made up of synthetic protein which Lexus points out is environmentally friendly as opposed to petroleum based materials. The seat has also been made quite slim to aid in overall weight reduction of the vehicle it could be installed in.
The spider silk has been threaded in a web-like pattern which spreads out radially from the center of the back rest. This net is body hugging which enables the occupant to be seated comfortably for a long duration of time.
The seat cushion and back rest have been designed to move in relation to the weight of the occupant and the forces of motion in the vehicle helping to stabilize head movement and keep one’s vision steady as the vehicle moves.
